Shower Thing
This device automagically sets your perfect shower temperature. Simply adjust the temperature to your preference and the device will keep track and increasingly adjust the default temperature based on previous choices.
how it works
•infrared camera automatically creates a user profile based on your low-resolution body heat map
•infrared camera senses ambient air temperature, current water temperature, and inner and outer body temperature
•internal clock calibrates day, week, month, and yearly choices
•Shower Thing keeps track of all your choices and sets a default temperature for your profile based on the best match to current conditions
There are three temperature measurements in Shower Thing. The valves each have a thermometer for sensing initial water temperatures. The device has a safety thermometer, also used to verify the combined water temperature. And the infrared camera detects external water temperature to make inferences about and adjustments for initial ambient humidity.
features
•simple, straightforward, "just works"
•interface attaches to any standard shower head
•powered by water heat
•simple wired connection to temperature valves
•backup thermostat to verify water temperature and prevent extremes
simple user interface
display / button
-detected profile name / up
-current temperature ( blinking while adjusting ) / select
-time/date / down
Temperature adjusts by 5°F or 2.5°C per button press by default. Hitting up / down / up / down or the opposite switches to a more precise adjustment, 2.5°F or 1.25°C, which can be repeated for even finer control. Resets after no input for 5 seconds.
Installing the device requires inserting a valve into hot and cold water supplies, then running a wire up to the shower head fixture.
When you turn on the device, it selects your user profile based on your body heat map. The valves adjust the water flow to produce the default temperature and the thermostat at the top verifies it. You can adjust it with the appropriate buttons and the device will integrate that choice for similar conditions later.
The interface allows adjusting the temperature, setting a name for your profile, verifying that your heat map matches your profile, calibrating time/date, and setting temperature limits.
